Zacchaeus

Verses Covered
Bible - Luke 19:1-10
Spark Bible - pages 400 to 405

As we continue on through Lent, we come to a passage that many of us may remember from our own Sunday School classes: Jesus meeting with the tax collector Zacchaeus.  This passage takes place shortly before Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday (hence why it appears in our lectionary during the Lenten season), but the real reason that Zacchaeus has been used in Sunday School over the years isn’t necessarily thematic… it’s because Zacchaeus is described as short, ergo, kids can identify with him.  To be honest, I’ve never found that to be a compelling reason for inclusion – but thankfully there’s enough else going on in this passage to make Zacchaeus a worthwhile study.
