New School Year
Although it's akin to celebrating a graduation, the start of a new school year is one of those special, liminal moments that mark time - our kids are growing up fast! This service has a lot in common with the graduation service, but is more directed towards anticipation and looking forward rather than gratitude and looking back.
Opening Prayer
Holy God, we are so proud of _____________ as he/she moves up to a new class. It has been so special to watch him/her grow over the past year - not just in what they've learned in their rooms, but in watching the person that they are growing into. They are so special and it is a joy to see them further becoming the person that they'll be. Amen.
Scripture Passage
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Closing Prayer
God of all our days, the start of a new school year reminds me of how proud I am of ______________. I know that they might be nervous and excited all at once about what their new class - about who will be in it and what they'll be asked to learn. So we pray that you and your spirit would be with them in this new adventure. Help them to keep old friends and make new ones. Help them keep learning from their teachers, and to be willing to ask questions when there are things they don't know. We know that you are helping us grow each and every day - so thank you for your constant love. Amen.
