Good Friday Kites

The flying of kites is a very important Good Friday tradition throughout the Caribbean, particularly on the island of Bermuda.  The kite is a symbol for two important things: the cross, which you can see in the stick bracing, and Jesus’ ascension, or going up into heaven.  Making a kite together as a family can help us to remember the cross and how Jesus will rise even after everyone thought that he was dead.

There are a variety of kite kits out there, varying in quality.  The cheapest option to purchase is through Oriental Trading, although they are admittedly pretty low quality.  If you're willing, I'd recommend trying to make your own!

  • Kite that reuses a plastic bag - eco-friendly option!

Regardless of which kite you decide on, decorate your kite however you would like, with signs of Easter, new life, or things that remind you of Jesus!
