Verses Covered
Bible - Jeremiah 31:31-34
Spark Bible - pages 178 to 179
Devotion: The Israelites were sad and suffering because they had had bad leaders for many years. God sent a man named Jeremiah to give them hope. Jeremiah told the people that God was going to send a good leader named Jesus to save the world. Through Jesus, the people would know God and everything would be good again. They were excited. They had hope.
“Waiting is not easy!” said Gerald the Elephant to Piggy in the book of the same name by Mo Willems. Even when life is going well (you are doing well in school, the Cubs win the World Series, Halloween + Thanksgiving + Christmas = extra dessert!), it is hard for all of us—young and old—to have patience and hope. When life is not going well (you are sad or sick, you feel different from your friends or family, school is challenging), it is even harder to do your best, not give up, and trust God.
Question: What do you do to remind yourself to be patient and hopeful during difficult times?
Prayer: Dear God, help us to be patient and hopeful (not fearful), especially when we are sad and hurting.
