Verses Covered
Bible - Isaiah 11:1-9
Spark Bible - pages 172 to 175
Devotion: Our favorite part of this passage is the end where the baby animals come in. It is amazing to think about how animals that are natural enemies could live happily together in peace once Jesus was involved. This made us think about how people who don’t usually get along could also live in peace if they follow Jesus’s teachings about how to love each other and God.
In this passage, God promises to send us a really good leader, Jesus, who will be a loving person and show us how to love everyone—even those we might not like or agree with, and no matter how different their appearance and choices and way of life are from our own.
As we approach an election season, and as we continue to live in a country where people with different ideas often have a hard time working together, this passage was a welcome reminder that God has given us the leader we need in Jesus. And that by following his teachings and example of loving others, we can help make our world a more peaceful place. As Evan explains it, “Jesus helps us be nice and think about the people around us. He helps us stand up for what’s right and make sure everyone’s included.”
Question: How could you share God’s love and peace with someone around you?
Prayer: Dear God, please help us share your love and peace with everybody, even people we disagree with. Amen.
