Devotion
We determined that the child being talked about in this passage is Jesus, and God was going to send him because the people needed a leader. But they didn’t need a leader to help them take over the world or boss everyone around; their leader would help them be peaceful.

God wants us to love other people, and wants us to love him too. Jesus is a good leader and good example of how to do this because he’s God’s son!  If animals that usually eat each other can get along, then surely we can get along with other people, if we try really hard.

God sent Jesus as a baby, and this story talks about a lot of things a child can do, so God must think children are pretty important. He likes them a lot.  Our son said he feels awesome knowing that he’s a child, and God really likes children and believes they can do great things. Children can love other people and love God just like adults can.

During the holidays there are lots of ways to love other people and show God our love, so everyone—young and older—should work together to make this a peaceful time of year. Let’s love God forever!

Reflection Question
What are some ways children can be peaceful leaders and show God's love to the people around them?

Prayer
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, and his love lasts forever. God, thank you that you sent Jesus to be our leader. Help us follow his example and find ways to love all the people around us and love you this Christmas season and all year long. Amen.
