Devotion:  In this passage we find Mary after the angel, Gabriel, has just visited her. He told her that she would bear a son, Jesus, who will be the Son of the God.  Mary is excited, yet overwhelmed and confused at the same time.  She really would like to talk to someone about what the Angel told her.  Mary decides to go visit her dear friend Elizabeth.

When Mary arrived, it was as if Elizabeth already knew the news she was there to share.   Elizabeth could feel her baby inside of her squirm and wiggle for joy.  Elizabeth said to Mary, God blesses you and your baby, because you believe in the promises the Lord has made.  Because of her faith in the Lord Mary is blessed by the Lord.   With this passage we can find the courage to remain faithful to the Lord for he has a plan for us and if we promise to worship the Lord we too shall be blessed.  Mary was so lucky to have such a great friend to share this exciting news.  Mary stayed with Elizabeth for several months and they were able to prepare for their babies together.

Question: Elizabeth acts as a mentor to Mary in this passage.  Do you have a close friend or a mentor that helps you understand how God is working in your life?

Prayer: Dear God, I promise to believe in you.  Please watch over my friends and family.  I pray that we are all kind to one another.  Thank you for sending baby Jesus and for protecting all of us.
