Bible - Jeremiah 31:31-34
Spark Bible - pages 178 to 179
Devotion: We hate practicing playing the piano, but we have to do it because our parents say so. It’s sort of one of the rules in our house and our parents say we have to do it. We sometimes pout or complain when we have to practice the piano. If we didn’t have to practice playing the piano because we already knew the piano in our hearts, we could do fun stuff instead, like sleep in or relax before school. And it would be awesome, maybe like heaven, even. And our parents wouldn’t have to struggle to get us to do it. We could just go to our recitals and play a new piece of music perfectly. And when our grandparents visit, we could hear them go “Wow” without having worked on that song before.
Maybe that’s what it’s like with God. Being with God is hard when you have to follow a bunch of rules. Because you sometimes forget rules, and breaking rules sometimes means losing a privilege. But being with God would be easy if you already have God in your heart. You wouldn’t have to work hard and practice at it. You would just know it, and that would be good.
Question: Why is it important to practice things? How can we practice following God?
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to help make our world a better place. Please help us to try to make the world a place you would be proud of. Amen.
