Devotion:  The holiday season has become a faster paced version of our already heavily scheduled lives.  Glittering holiday parties, seasonal events, gift gathering, and special food preparations put a squeeze on what ordinarily are sufficiently very busy days.  Recently we realized we have been in perpetual motion for quite some time.  Education, employment, marriage, family, and all the events and opportunities we have willingly signed up for since then have left us with precious little time.  It feels like we are running in a race in which the pace only quickens, the finish line is never in sight, and sadly the beautiful scenery is starting to blur.

"How can this be?" we asked of ourselves when our conversations became one word volleys, our family time equaled transportation time, and our best meals were simply the ones prepared most efficiently.  How had we allowed this to happen?  Our lives seemed unfulfilled in spite of careful planning and we felt fatigued just considering the impending holidays.

Prayer: Heavenly God, guide us to simplify our lives.  Help our family receive the love and wisdom of your son Jesus.  Allow his presence to be felt through meaningful exchanges of words and affection in our everyday lives.  Help us to be together, not just revolve around one another.
