Day 38 - Maundy Thursday
Bible Verses: Luke 22:7-23
Spark Bible: The Last Supper (p.462)
Devotion: When we read this passage as a family, we all agreed it must have been a very sad day. Jesus knew he was going to die the next day, and he wanted to be with his closest friends on his final night as he ate his last supper.
Sometimes when we are very sad, it is tempting to go off and be alone. We head off to our room by ourselves, or maybe we just get really quiet and don’t tell anyone what is bothering us. Yet, Jesus didn’t do that. He set an example for us of what to do when we are scared and sad. He asked the people he loved most to gather with him, and he talked with them.
He also said something important that night for all of us to remember. Just as Jesus knew he shouldn’t be alone when he was very sad, he told his friends that he would always be with them, even after he died. He asked us to remember that every time we sit down to dinner with our family or our friends, he is there with us, too.
Jesus and us. We are always together!
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for always being with us. Be in our minds and in our hearts. Amen.
