Day 37 - Wednesday of Holy Week
Bible Verses: Luke 22:7-23
Spark Bible: The Last Supper (p.462)
Devotion: In this story, Jesus tells Peter and John to go into the town to meet a man with a pitcher of water who will lead them into a room where they will celebrate Passover. Once they prepared the room, Jesus and the apostles came and Jesus said he would eat with them before he suffered. Jesus picked up the bread and then he said, take this and share it among yourselves. He said, "This is my body" and then asked the apostles to eat it in remembrance of him. He then took the wine, and said "This is my blood" and asked the apostles to drink it in remembrance of him. Jesus then said one of the apostles would betray him, and the apostles wondered who would betray Jesus.
This story reminds us of Jesus' love for others and his trust in God. We know that he loves everybody equally in this story because he shares the bread and wine with all of the apostles even though he knows one will betray him. We know too that he trusts God because he understands the pain and suffering that is coming very soon, yet he trusts God that dying and rising from the dead is the ultimate sacrifice for all people and sign of God's love.
Sometimes, we wonder, is God with us? We know that God loves us because God gave us Jesus and, at the Last Supper, Jesus gave the disciples and us a way to remember him after he died.
Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for giving us the communion ritual that we can share with friends and family to remember you are with us.
