Day 36 - Tuesday of Holy Week
Bible Verses: Luke 22:47-53
Spark Bible: Jesus is Betrayed (p.468)
Our family had four main ideas when we read the story:
"There was going to be a party. Bummer it was cancelled."
Passover was coming when there would be getting together with family and go to the temple. But at the dinner with Jesus he them bad news that people want to hurt him. The followers of Jesus were sad and worried about Jesus but just couldn't stay awake and be a good friend even though they wanted to.
"Sounds like some people make some bad decisions."
Judas, who was one of the followers (disciples) gave Jesus a hug and kiss tipping off the mean guys who wanted to arrest Jesus. Then a friend of Jesus got upset and cut off on ear of the solider that was arresting Jesus.
"Even if you do something bad, you can be forgiven." I think that because the guy cut off an ear, then Jesus healed him. Jesus was a nice person and put the guy’s ear back on.
"Darkness ruled the day" Jesus admits it is not looking good for him. Jesus asks why he wasn't arrested one of the days he was teaching at the temple with some of them there. Even Jesus said darkness ruled.
Reflection: Do you think Jesus was mad his friends couldn't stay awake when he was upset and praying for help?
Prayer: Dear God, Lent is a time that we think about the darkness trying to squash the light of Jesus. Forgive us when we have things that sometimes makes our light shine dim, like a flash light running out of batteries. Help us to know that light is more powerful than dark.
