 Day 32 - Thursday

Bible Verses: Luke 19:41-48
Spark Bible: The Chief Priests (p.460)

Devotion: In this passage Jesus knocks over the tables of sellers and moneychangers in the temple and chases them out.  The sellers in the temple were greedy and only wanted money – not to worship or pray to God.  Jesus didn’t like it when people in the temple replaced something important with something not important.  The important thing to Jesus is praying to and worshiping God. Jesus wanted to keep the temple pure for these things.  It is like replacing something important (getting enough sleep) with something not important (playing electronic games into the night).

At this time Jesus was a favorite teacher and the people were learning new things from him.  Jesus was trying to take over and keep the leaders, priests and other people from doing what they had always done.  These people wanted things to stay the same and were making lots of money through greed.  So, these leaders wanted to kill Jesus but the people didn’t want the teacher they loved taken from them.  The people wanted to keep listening to and learning from Jesus as their favorite teacher.

Prayer: Thank you God for our abundance and teaching us what is important. Amen.
