Day 3 - Friday
Bible Verses: Matthew 6:1-15
Spark Bible: The Lord’s Prayer (p.278)
Devotion: In this passage from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is teaching us how he would like us to give to the needy and how to pray. It is very important to Jesus that we be cognizant of our motives when we are doing good things for others or praying to God. Jesus wants us to pray in a humble, private manner. Showing off by praying loudly and obviously so everyone can see you is not appropriate to God. Jesus wants us to go to our room or a quiet place and talk to God in private. Similarly, are we doing good works for our own sake or for the glory of God? Jesus teaches us the Lord's Prayer at the end- a beautiful expression of our love for God and a plea for atonement and forgiveness.
Reflection: Think about a time when you were showing off or bragging. How did that make you feel? How do you think that made others around you feel?
Prayer: Thank you God for happy hearts, for rain and sunny weather. And thank you for my family. Amen.
