Day 24 - Tuesday
Bible Verses: Luke 5:17-26
Spark Bible: Four Friends (p.348)
Devotion: This passage is a funny story about bringing your friends to Jesus and about the grace of forgiveness. In this passage, a group of friends were so desperate to bring their crippled friend to meet Jesus that they cut a hole in someone’s roof and lowered their friend into the middle of Jesus’ teaching! Can you imagine how startled the crowd was to see him descending through the roof? But they were even more surprised by what Jesus had to say. The crippled man wanted to be healed, but first Jesus offered him forgiveness. This was to show everyone that forgiveness is the most important gift we are given, even more special than the gift of good health. Then Jesus healed the man. He did this to prove to the crowd that he was sent by God, and that only God can forgive our sins.
After we talked, we celebrated the gift of forgiveness by singing We Are Forgiven, which is a simple hymn that repeats, “We are forgiven, Thanks be to God.”
Reflection: Have you ever asked God to help you with something, only to have God answer your prayer in a way that surprised you? Have you even been surprised by being forgiven?
Prayer: God, thank you for keeping our house safe and for forgiving our sins. Amen
