Day 22 - Saturday
Bible Verses: Luke 5:17-26
Spark Bible: Four Friends (p.348)
Devotion: Have you ever needed help from a friend? The man in this story could not walk - he couldn't even move by himself - but some amazing friends helped get him to the one man who could heal him: Jesus. After reading the story, we watched a YouTube Lego re-enactment (parental warning: effective but addictive!) so that we could see what these four friends had to do to lift the man up on the roof, make a hole, and lower him down to Jesus without dropping him. They must have really believed that Jesus could help their friend. They could have just sat down and had a snack when they saw that they couldn't get in through the front door. Instead, they kept trying. They figured out a plan and, even though it was hard, they got him to Jesus.
Our daughter mentioned that once when she was scared to climb on some ropes by herself, but our son told her that she wouldn't fall and showed her how he did it. He was a good friend and helped her. We talked about how Jesus helps us too. How excited the four friends must have been when the man was able to walk home - they helped make their friend's life better!
Reflection: What are some of the ways that you could be a good friend, sister or brother? Are there ways that Jesus has been a friend by helping you? Have you ever asked him to be your friend?
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for helping us and making us feel comfortable when we are afraid or can't move. Help me to be a good friend and a better sister. Amen.
