Day 2 - Thursday
Bible Verses: Matthew 6:1-15
Spark Bible: The Lord’s Prayer (p.278)
Devotion: In our family we have people who are Christian and people who are Jewish. Sometimes at special family events we wanted to read scripture from the Bible, but we would wonder: What scripture could we read that would include both religions?
Then a rabbi we knew had a good idea. He suggested choosing the Lord's Prayer when we wanted to read scripture. As we learned in today's devotional reading, this was the prayer Jesus taught his disciples.
The rabbi said the Lord's Prayer has a lot in common with many Jewish prayers. Since Jesus and his disciples were Jewish, it makes sense he would teach them to pray in a way they were familiar with. We were happy to find a prayer that would be meaningful to both our Jewish and Christian family members.
Reflection: Think about your friends. How are you different? What do you have in common? Why did God made each of us a little different?
Prayer: God, please help us find many similarities in each other so we can develop better relationships.
