Day 14 - Thursday
Bible Verses: Luke 9:28-36
Spark Bible: The Transfiguration (p.359)
Devotion: Have you ever had to do something really hard, and you weren’t sure you could do it? That’s when we ask God to be with us and to help us. Jesus went to the mountain to pray because he knew that soon he would have to do the hardest thing of all: give his life for our salvation. God answered Jesus’s prayer in three important ways: God filled Jesus with the Holy Spirit, which let Jesus know that God was with him every step of the way. God also sent Moses and Elijah because they, too, had been asked by God to carry out difficult tasks and trust God that it would be okay. This showed Jesus that he could trust God’s plan for him. And, finally, God appeared to Peter, John and James so that they would know how to help Jesus when he needed them.
When we ask God for help, God fills us with the Spirit too, and makes sure we have people in our lives who can give us the strength we need when we think we can’t do it.
Reflection: Can you think of a time you felt God’s spirit? Who else do you ask for help when you need it?
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for helping us face the hard things that we have to do in life. Amen.
